BATTLE OF THE BANDS: “September Morn”

BATTLE OF THE BANDS! (BOTB Top Photo)

Wanted to continue with the September theme, and chose this beautiful song from Neil Diamond, the title track from his 1979 album. It was originally “C’est En Septembre,” written and performed by Gilbert Becaud, also known as “Monsieur 100,000 Volts” for his energetic performances, according to the blogger’s best friend. Here’s Neil singing it in a live performance, though I don’t know when or where. The song reached #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1979.

It’s been covered a bunch of times, including the two versions you’ll be choosing from.

CONTESTANT #1: Andrea Bocelli This was recorded in a 2006 concert at Lake Las Vegas Resort.

CONTESTANT #2: Engelbert Humperdinck From a 1992 concert at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles.

All right, you know what to do: Give Andrea’s and Engelbert’s version of the song a listen, decide which one you like better, and leave me a comment letting me know which it is, and a little about why you chose that one. When you’re finished doing that, let in the dog and put out the cat stop by these other wonderful blogs, some of which might also be doing a Battle of the Bands today, and give their choices a listen, why don’cha?

Best of luck to Messrs. Bocelli and Humperdinck! The lines are now open!

  1. Neither version really added much to the original, but I found Bocelli's accent distracted me a little.

Plus, anyone who grew up with a name like Engelbert must be a bad motorscooter so he deserves a vote!

If I could, I'd vote Diamond, but give my vote to Engelbert!

    1. His real name is Arnold Dorsey... no wonder he changed it...
