Two For Tuesday: Paul Williams

Singer, songwriter, and actor (remember Little Enos Burdette from Smokey and the Bandit?) Paul Williams has had his songs performed by the Carpenters, David Bowie, Helen Reddy, and of course Three Dog Night, who sang his “Out In The Country,” “Family Of Man,” and “An Old Fashioned Love Song.” He’s a member of the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame and was elected as the president of ASCAP in 2009.

Paul wrote “Evergreen,” the love theme from the movie A Star Is Born (1976) starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, for which he received his first Academy Award. He sings it here, from his 1979 album A Little On The Windy Side.

He also scored the movie The Muppet Movie (1979), from which “The Rainbow Connection” comes. Here he performs it on the Nickelodeon show Yo Gabba Gabba! in 2009.

You can find Paul’s website here, and he’s on Facebook and Twitter. You can find a lot of his music on YouTube, also.
