RIP Betsy Palmer

Wanted to take a moment and remember someone that was an actress and a game show panelist, Betsy Palmer, who died the other day at age 88. I knew her best as a member of the panel on the nighttime game show I’ve Got A Secret in the 1960’s, but her breakout role, if you can call it that, was as Mrs. Voorhees in 1980’s Friday the 13th, a role she said she only took so she could afford a new car.

I remember her from a brief role she played in the TV show Just Shoot Me!, which starred George Segal, Laura San Giacomo, Wendie Malick, Enrico Colantoni, and David Spade. She was in the episode “The Walk,” playing Rhonda, a waitress in a Brooklyn diner. It’s a very sweet episode, at least as sweet as the show tended to get. If you have about 25 minutes, here it is.

Rest in peace, Ms. Palmer.
